Graduation of Dr. Victor Gourlay successfully completed
Dr. Victor Gourlay received his PhD at the University of Koblenz/Landau on February 10th 2017 for his thesis "Development and application of hydroponic like test systems for the determination of plant uptake factors (PUF) of xenobiotics to be used as parameters in environmental fate models". Dr. Gourlay will continue to work on the topic "Plant Protection Products" at the IfA.

2016 was an interesting and succesful year for IfA. On about 70 pages and in a brand new design, our annual report provides not only an extensive summary of the scientific work and other activites around the Institute - for the first time it is introducing members of our team. VitoVin-Pflanzenstärkung added to the FiBL Inputs-list
VitoVin-Pflanzenstärkung was added to the FiBL-Inputs-list without any restrictions as plant strengthener on organic basis after being successfully tested by the Research Institute for Organic Agriculture (Forschungsinstitut für Biologischen Landbau, FiBL). It also complies with the guidelines of Demeter Germany / International and Naturland and can therefore be used in organic farming. The confirmation is initially valid until January 2018.
Department Environmental Systems presented countrywide geodata of land cover
The Department Environmental Systems presented its work at a colloquium of the task force "Fernerkundliche Landschaftserfassung" (Land Cover and Remote Sensing) in the Ministry of Environment. The project resulted in an innovative and comprehensive set geodata for the whole federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
Biogas technology and know-how for the region of Nariño, Colombia
The aim of this Public Private Partnership (PPP) Project is the transfer of biogas technology and know-how to the region of Nariño, Colombia and thereby improve the living conditions of small farmers. At present, six innovative small scale biogas plants are installed on small farms, which are members of the agricultural cooperative "Colácteos". The biogas produced from organic residue by these plants is energetically recycled into energy for cooking, lighting resp. heating.
Technology transfer project "Small biogas plants in Kenya" finished
The RLP Agroscience successfully completed the project "small biogas plants in Kenya", in August 2016. The project was funded by the DEG/KfW and carried out jointly with Rehau GmbH and the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Nairobi. In this project, the technology of small biogas plants was established in Kenya. Six pilot plants were installed at small farms, put into operation and checked for functionality.
Additional Eh da (Alreda There)-Communites
After sucessfully finishing the pilot project at Bornheim (Pfalz). IfA's biodiversity concept "Eh da-Flächen" is now being established in six additional communities all over Germany. The concept aims to increase biodiversity in urban and agricultural landscapes through the upgading of specific key areas, which are already there.
